Was the President correct to make a 'Federal case' (so to speak) out of a local case from Harvard Square?

I think it was wrong for Pres. Obama to comment on anything related to an unresolved criminal case.

Rest assured that if anyone (of any race) was ';out of control'; to such a degree that he caused a disturbance in any neighborhood, then it logically follows that he also ';lost control'; with law enforcement person, particularly since he knew he could depend on his buddy Barry to make a federal case out of it...just as it happened on Prime Time last night !!! IMHO the professor staged this whole thing for publicity and to cash in on his new-found celebrity status, write a book, talk show circuit...etc, etc, etc.Was the President correct to make a 'Federal case' (so to speak) out of a local case from Harvard Square?
I was very disappointed in the President. We listened to him to find out all we could about his universal health care program. Actually we found out very little. He talked about certain numbers of people who are not covered and I believe that those numbers included illegals. I do not want our government (us )picking up the tab for illegal residents.

Also, i believe that question about the Harvard Professor was staged. This particular TV appearance by the President was too important for him to play ';Politics as Usual';. Too bad he forgot his campaign promises and is just giving us more of the same. Also, the President of the United States should be a unifier, not a racial divider. He is so far , disappointing me.Was the President correct to make a 'Federal case' (so to speak) out of a local case from Harvard Square?
I don't think he did. In fact, I don't think there is any case at all. Seems Gates was released immediate and the charges dropped. The cop over reacted. Gates probably did too. BUT cops see this sort of indignation all the time... I would have expected him to handle it a bit better once it was clear that Gates was in fact the homeowner.
He didn't make it a ';federal case';. It is still a local case.

I was the professor's house. He DID show ID. Cops can be jerks.
I don't think he made a federal case. He was asked what he thought...and he gave his opinion.
He was ask the question. If he had not answered the question then you would be criticizing him for that.*
