Is it true that criminal attorneys for federal case fees are around 40,000?

based on what my divorce cost i'd say that sounds on the low end.Is it true that criminal attorneys for federal case fees are around 40,000?
They are paid an hourly rate. That rate is set by a panel in each area and is based on what is charged in that area. The $40,000 figure would be for a trial that required significant prep work. Most cases result in plea agreements. I know in my district there are very few $40,000 payouts to panel attorneys. Is it true that criminal attorneys for federal case fees are around 40,000?
If a case goes to trial, that sounds about right.
Could be. Could be a lot more or a lot less.

Ken's answer related to attorneys appointed by the court for an indigent defendant. If you hire your own attorney he can charge you whatever the two of you agree to.

In some high profile cases (Ken Lay / Jeff Skilling leaps to mind) attorneys fees can run into the hundreds of thousands.
